Could this be what’s standing between you and that dream job?
This move could change everything ♟️
Dear Creative,
Welcome back, and if you're new here, grab a seat. You're not so late to the party.
This is the official newsletter of Content Connect, our inner-circle content space 💌. Here, you’ll get the full tea on everything happening in our community, including insights shared by our amazing guests in the content world.
Let me let you in on a little secret.
Since our first issue dropped, I’ve been thinking of a name to call this community.
Something unique and specially for us.
After multiple brainstorming sessions that had me toying with words that shouldn’t be caught dead together…
Nothing came.
Yes, I hit a block I couldn’t quite get past.
Now this is me throwing it out to you. Feel free to send in your recommendations for our community name.
Pretty please?
While I wait on that, let’s get down to business.
Today, we’re furiously jotting down all there is to know about the badass marketer and content creator, Benita Riagbayire.
She’s part of our Season 1 guest circle, and honestly, Benita’s story will make you rethink your career choice.
In case you’re wondering, which you probably are, Benita is a Law graduate currently in Law school. While she’s not busy burying her head in heavy textbooks, she juggles content creation and marketing.
Early this year, Benita transitioned from social media marketing at Tech Cabal to marketing operations, with the incredible team at Oyster.
Yeah, we’re taking notes too.
In our conversation with her (S1E2), she shared how volunteering didn’t just shape her career; it completely changed it for the better.
So, it’s only right to ask…
🪴How important is volunteering for your personal growth?
As the popular adage goes:
"It takes a village to raise a child." (genuinely, sometimes face front)
Yet, it’s undeniable that in our present world, it takes a community, especially of like minds, to nurture creativity.
Our environment and the people we surround ourselves with greatly influence our work, values, mindset, and even, career paths.
It’s the same with volunteering.
A little contribution here and there can eventually build not just your skills, but also your work experience and even, your confidence.
At the end of the day, those small beginnings open big doors to gaining practical experience and building meaningful connections.
Ladies and gentlemen, that’s the transformative power of volunteering.
🗝️ Some practical ways to make the most of any volunteering opportunity.
🧩 Ensure your goals align with the opportunity.
While volunteering is a great way to accelerate your career path, you don't want to be that person who signs up for every single opportunity without thinking it through.
One day you’re volunteering at a tech event. The next, you're ushering at a wedding. Then you're helping out at a food fair.
If your goal is to grow in a specific industry, say design or content marketing, then your volunteering choices should reflect that.
Be strategic and align your opportunities with where you’re headed.
🤝 Be eager and willing to do work.
Volunteering isn’t just taking up roles.
Are you willing to dedicate the time and effort to do the work? Does the fact that it’s unpaid make it feel less important?
From Benita’s experience in the volunteer selection process, she’s noticed a trend: Some people volunteer for the experience. And others? They’re just there for the free merch or to add something shiny to their resume.
So the next time a volunteer opportunity pops up, pause and reflect: are you applying because you want to contribute, or are you just in it for the perks?
🏗️ Build experience.
It’s not about having the flashiest portfolio. It’s about being able to say:
“Here’s what I did. Here’s how it helped.”
That’s what sets you apart.
Benita knew this right from her undergraduate days and applying this knowledge contributed in her landing a role at Tech Cabal. That same mindset opened the door to her current position at Oyster.
If you don’t have experience yet, you can be honest about where you are. Everyone starts somewhere. Simply share why you want to volunteer and talk about what you’re hoping to learn or achieve.
That’s how you build the experience.
🗣️ Network actively
When you volunteer, connect with others. It’s a great way to build lasting professional and personal relationships.
Introduce yourself. Strike up conversations. Sell yourself. Ask questions. Offer help. And most importantly, SPEAK UP.
Don’t wait for some official “networking” event before you start networking.
Every event, every room, every moment is an opportunity to connect with people.
So, do it unapologetically.
And lastly,
📣 Showcase and talk about your work!
One thing I love about Ade, Founder and Host of the Content Connect show, is the fact that he calls himself D FOR DOINGS. Trust me, he has the doings and he's not afraid to showcase it for all who care to see.
What do people know you as? Do they know and recognize your doings?
You’ve volunteered. You’ve shown up. You’ve gained the skills. Now, it’s time to let the world see it.
Intentionally highlight your volunteer work on your resume and social media platforms. You can make it a personal brand. Let it be a thing or one of the things people associate with you.
No matter how little, talk about experience, the value you added, the results you contributed to, and the skills you picked up along the way.
The beauty of volunteering is in the quiet consistency of showing up, learning on the job, and choosing impact over perfection.
So, if you're waiting for the “perfect time” to grow, maybe it's in saying yes to the next volunteer form you come across. Because just like Benita, you might be stacking up doings without even realizing it.
P.S. Having 'doings' isn't just about achievements, it's about the journey and the impact you make along the way.
Watch the full episode to learn more about Benita’s journey, and how you too can stack up doings.

🕵️ Keeping up with Content Connect
Welcome to another episode of KUWCC. Writing this out made me feel so cool🤭, hehehe.
I hope you enjoyed seeing and listening to everyone’s playlist and maybe, even saved one or some😂😂.
Today, we’re getting into the team’s content guilty pleasures, myself included. They might seem unproductive to others, but we love them anyway.
P.s. TRIGGER WARNING ⚠️
AMAZING RECOMMENDATIONS AHEAD!!! Proceed with caution ⛔️!!!🤭🔥
Ademilade says his life is way too serious.
So when he’s not out there fighting for his life in the labour market, he unwinds with something relatively unserious on YouTube and Netflix.
His go-to YouTube channels are Cruise, Sidemen, Jubilee, and MKBHD. As for Netflix, anime is his happy place. 7 out of 10 times, that’s what you’ll find him watching.
The remaining 3? Probably a series.
Right now, he’s switching between Sakamoto Days, Dan Da Dan, and Ozark.
Matthew says his favourite content to consume is reviews of his favourite teams' basketball games.
Matthew wanna be Jordan 😭
Please tell me you got that.
If it isn’t basketball team reviews, you’ll catch him on YouTube watching Cruise, Sidemen, and all their sister pages, Beta Squad and chess streams.
Yes, chess streams.
For the longest, I thought chess was a game where you just moved pieces aimlessly according to vibes. To then be so invested in the game that you watch chess streams is beyond me.
But hey, if he says that’s his content pleasure, that’s his content pleasure.
We listen. We don’t judge.
Olaoluwa prefers consuming content from his “boys” from the UK, innit — Beta Squad, Chunkz, Niko, and the gang.
He also consumes Mr. Beast’s content as well.
For him, it’s a mix-match of both worlds. It’s entertaining, but at the same time, educational. Talk about balance😮💨🤌🏼
Kenechukwu says her content guilty pleasure is animation because it’s unrealistic and helps her forget about life for a moment.
I can definitely relate to this..
Efe says he uses YouTube like others use TikTok; just scrolling through shorts and having the time of his life. What could get better than an algorithm knowing all your interests and recommending them to you?
Then, there’s me who enjoys watching cartoons, kdrama or reality shows on Netflix. No matter what mood I'm in, these three content forms will always be my go-to's. Why? It's easy to forget all the cares of life and just have fun while watching them.
Your turn. What’s your content guilty pleasure?
I’d love to see how creative your creative taste buds are😌.
Till next time,
Melody from Content Connect ❤️
